Flashback Friday

For this week's Flashback Friday we are going to go back in time about 12 years...
to 1997.

And I am going to introduce you to MY COUSINS...
I was lucky enough to grow up with SEVERAL cousins that were my age!
I don't know if my mom & her sisters/sister-in-laws planned having children at the same time or if it just happened, but I have LOVED it, as my cousins are my best friends to this day!

Top Picture:
My Mom's side of the family

(we are all within a year apart in age)

Bottom Picture:

(the age gaps in this picture are a little larger...but we are all still within a couple of years of eachother...well, except for Granny) :-)

I'm so grateful to have a LARGE FAMILY & we still get together once a month for Family Night with both sides of the family, so I get to see these cousins at least once a month, which I LOVE! Now many of us are having kids at the same time & I hope our kids can be friends too!

Rogaine

Have you all been DYING to know what RYLER would look like with HAIR???

Maybe even PURPLE HAIR???

and maybe some bangs???

Now you know! :)

Making their own fun...

I may have a LARGE pile of LAUNDRY in the middle of my floor right now,
but I couldn't complain when I saw what Parker did with the newly emptied basket...

He pulled Ryler AROUND & AROUND & AROUND in that basket...
Ryler was cracking up &
Parker was getting tired...
both things that a mom loves to see!

I LOVE watching these two boys play together!!!

P.S.
Ryler is TAKING STEPS!

I've been trying to catch proof on video camera, but have yet to be successful.
Maybe soon.
But I don't want to forget that he started taking 2-3 steps at a time a couple of weeks ago!
Yesterday he walked from one couch to the next...about 3 steps.
He's crazy.
And still VERY wobbly...but he gets a kick out of being upright.

Can someone please stop my baby from growing up!?!

Baby or Babe

We were leaving for church last Sunday & I had Ryler on one hip and was trying to coax Parker out the door, so I could start getting them in the car.

Parker turned to me & said, "Mommy, where's babe?"
(He calls Ryler "Baby" 99 out of 100 times)

so I quickly replied, "He's right here" -showing that I was holding him on my hip

Parker said, "NOOOOO...where's Baaaabe?" Exaggerating the phrase this time.

I said, "Parker, look...he is right here...lets go get in the car please"

Parker said, "Where is BAAABE?"

All the sudden it hit me, I think he is talking about Matt...since I usually call him "Babe"
so I said,

"OHHHH...you mean daddy?"

He smiled & said, "Yes!"

I replied, "He is coming, just is just getting his shoes on"

Parker simply said, "Ok...and walked out the door"

He was just making sure that BABE...I mean DADDY was coming to church with us!:)

Flashback Friday

So I've decided that every FRIDAY(if I remember) I am going to do a FLASHBACK...

I'm going to post a picture from my past (it can be several years ago, or just a few years ago...as long as it was before I started blogging)
I think it will be fun to look back & write down some memories...for the sake of this blog being my journal!

Today Parker walked in from playing in the backyard & I had to snap a couple pictures of what he looked like...
COVERED in dirt & chalk.
it was even in his teeth!(no that is not a gap)

And I KNEW what my 1st FLASHBACK PICTURE would be...

A little 2 year old girl that LOVED to play in the dirt as much as Parker does now!

Like mother, like son.

Join me every Friday & post a picture of your past!!!

Why I Blog...

My girlfriends went out to eat lastnight and somewhere during the conversation my JOURNAL entered the conversation.

I'm trying to remember why it came up???

Oh...yes, someone brought up that it is still weird to them that Matt & I got married
(since they all knew us both in highschool)

We get that a LOT.

Crystal asked if we always liked eachother?

Brittany was trying to remember if we ever dated?

We were trying to remember if Matt was as funny as he is now, back in highschool?

I told them it is funny to read back in my journals and see the times that I did in fact like him...and others where "he was the worst date ever!" (Senior Co-Ed Dance) & the time when Catherine & I sat on his front porch, begging him to teach us the Men in Black dance & how we were in highschool Newspaper together & he would always try to convince someone else to write his article for him. Or about the time that I went to Scout Camp with him...well not just him, the whole ward(it was at my family's cabin, so technically I was at the cabin & the boys were in the meadow) but I would wander down during the days...Bryan recently reminded me that he remembers me throwing a cow pie in the fire at that campout. That must have been when I won over Matt's heart.

Yep, I'm sure that was the moment.

Catherine then commented last night, that she remembered how good I was to always write in my journal & that she loved to read it{insert snicker from Catherine & gasp from me, not knowing she used to read it!} :)

I couldn't really deny the fact. I DID write in my journal.
A LOT.

You know that first lesson when you are a little 12 year old Beehive on "Family History & the importance of Journal Keeping"...

I took it very seriously.

VERY.

Anyways...my point...

YES...I have a point!

I LOVE to go back and read about the boys I liked, my hobbies, my attempts to run away, the time I moved into the bathroom, our family vacations, surprise birthday parties...that I found out about, football games, & more!

But since I started blogging...I see no need to "journal" because I feel like that is what a blog is.
A journal WITH pictures, which in my opinion will be even better to look back & read one day!

Does anyone feel the same way?

So I blog{who made up the word blog anyways, it's kind of an ugly word) for myself & for my kids...not for comments(although I do love to read yours) & typing is sooooo much faster than writing in my journal ever was!

Soooo...

I encourage everyone to "Journal"---
If blogging isn't for you, whip out a paperbound notebook and go to town, make a personal folder in Microsoft word and type something every day, compile a scrapbook with details about your pictures...

...WHATEVER you like best! But I promise that one day you will be glad you did!

Because I LOVE reading the journal entries of my relatives that have passed on.

I love looking back and reading my journal from years past.

I love peeking into YOUR lives through your blogs & seeing what you are journaling about!

I had NO idea that I would marry "Matt Allen" one day...the cute boy in my kindergarten class, but I'm SURE GLAD I wrote in my journal all those years...because it is so fun to look back and see what I thought about him BEFORE I was in love with him!

And who knows...maybe one day, my kids will enjoy reading about it too!?!

You still don't see my point in all of this rambling?

OK...I'll give it you straight and simple.

You should journal...in my opinion.

Armor Up!

Get your armor out, because this boy is ready to
TAKE YOU ON!!!

Mia & Parker had fun "play fighting" at Grandma's house on Sunday

I guess it is time to buy Parker some "dress up" clothes because he was lovin' it!

Thanks Powell, for bringing your Armor over! :)

Slip N' Slide

Lastnight for FHE, we went to the park with all of my mom's side and had a BLAST on a GIANT...and I mean Giant...SLIP N' SLIDE...

Parker wasn't too sure of the slip n' slide, so I took him over to the playground and I think he had more fun swinging & climbing on the jungle gym.
My cute sister Heidi & best friend/cousin Holly
I think Parker ate more watermelon than everyone combined!

Cute Emily giving my arm a break & playing with Ryler :)

Cute nieces Hallie & Gemma on the swings

It was such a great night!
I'm already looking forward to next month!(we get together with all the cousins once a month for FHE & I LOVE this tradition!)

Mia & Parker

These 2 kids can be CRAZY
{imagine two 2 year olds being crazy...I know...shocker}

Sometimes I think my parents want to ban us from their house...

...but MOSTLY,
they make me LAUGH...

...a LOT!

*we have NO idea where they found the toothpicks
OR
where they got the idea to start sticking them in the couch
OR
where all the adults were when this happened
OR
where their pants are
BUT
when we found them, it made us
LAUGH!!!

Energizer Bunny

Matt's Grandpa Lyman turned 90...yes 90
& we were able to celebrate with him at his Hawaiian Luau Birthday Bash...Moki's catered {yummy!} & they had a Polynesian song/dance show{so fun to watch!} & he had lots of friends & family there to celebrate with him! It was so great!

And he is not slowing down anytime soon...so I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years from now, we were celebrating his 100th with him!!!

Ryler-8 Months

Ryler is 8 months old & keeping me on my toes!!!
Sleeping Habits:
This month was not too great, but we have finally achieved somewhat of a schedule after lots of fun vacations this summer & he usually falls asleep between 8-9pm & wakes up between 7-9am. He still uses a pacifier and loves his silky blankies. If you remember Ryler slept through the night from day ONE. BUT then about 3 1/2 months old he turned into a CRAZY sleeper and woke up several times a night for the past few months, so I'm SO GLAD that he is finally sleeping all night again! I attribute the last few months of his CRAZY sleep patterns to his top 2 & bottom 2 teeth that popped through. He naps twice a day-usually around 10am & 2pm.

Eating Habits:
He eats baby food 3 times a day...he LOVES frozen blueberries, bananas...actually he loves ALL fruit, veggies, bread, crackers & pretty much anything we put in front of him:) I think he would eat steak if I let him! He is getting good at chewing most foods...with his 4 front teeth:)

Play Habits:
He LOVES his brother! They wrestle, they make messes, they play with toys, they make messes, they dig in the dirt, they make messes, they make each other mad, they make messes & they make each other laugh til their bellies hurt!
Any 1sts this Month?
His top 2 teeth popped through & another one on his bottom...so he is up to 5 teeth now:)
1st trip to the Hospital-to visit Grandpa after Hip Surgery
1st time to eat Dairy(cheese & yogurt)
1st time his mom left him overnight(for Youth Conference)
1st time to stand/balance on his own
1st time to walk along furniture

How in the world did he go from this...
to this...in such a short time???

Happy 8 Months Ryler!
We LOVE You!!!

Who to Blame?

Do I blame the 2 year old who left his half eaten yogurt container in the family room?
or
The mom who let the 2 year old eat his yogurt in the family room late lastnight?
or
The baby who found the yogurt container...12 hours later...and made quite a mess?

After a big deep breath & 2 quick pictures...
I put the blame where it belongs...
on MYSELF!

*A little advice for the day: Don't allow yogurt on your carpet.
(As if you didn't already know that)

I hope Ryler doesn't get sick from that nasty, old yogurt!
